Silica Sand (Filter Sand) as per CPHEEO Manual and Bureau of Indian Standards can be used in Rapid Sand Filter, Slow Sand Filter and Pressure Filter purpose. WTP. Silica Sand (Filter Sand) with effective size 450 micron (0.45 mm) to 700 micron (0.7 mm) and Uniformity coefficient is 1.3 to 1.7. Silica Sand / Filter Sand satisfy other standards fixed as per IS.
Filter Sand Specification
The filter media should conform to IS 8419 (Part -1) 1977 and as per CPHEEO Manual.
- The sand shall be of hard and resistant quartz or quartzite and free of clay, fine particles, soft grains and dirt of every description,
- Effective size of sand shall be 0.45 mm to 0.70 mm,
- Uniformity coefficient shall not be more than 1.70 nor less than 1.30
- Ignition loss should not exceed 0.7% by weight - Soluble fraction in Hydrochloric acid shall not exceed 5.0% by weight
- Silica Content should not be less than 90%
- Specific Gravity shall be in the range between 2.55 – 2.65
- Wearing loss shall not exceed 3%
